How to obtain compensation for unlawful video monitoring by public authorities or private individuals and entities?
If you believe that video monitoring and recording has been carried out in an unlawful manner, namely, without your consent and/or not according to legal provisions which specifically allow video surveillance, you can claim compensation from the public authority or private individual or entity that collected and processed the footage.
Your right to claim compensation in case of a violation of your right to private life is stipulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia.
Remember that you can request compensation for the material (financial) loss and/or the moral injury that you have suffered due to the unlawful video monitoring.
The procedure for submitting a complaint is different and depends on the status of the authority and the person in question, namely, whether it was a public person or a private person.
