The right to the appropriate social, legal and economic protection of the family belongs to a specific category of human rights, called economic and social rights. These rights oblige the State to create and maintain a social security and support system. Therefore, families in Latvia, including children, parents and other persons who have undertaken care for children, are guaranteed special social and economic support and protection.
